How To Make Your Time Count When You Work At Home
December 22nd, 2008Choosing to work at home doesn’t mean taking a long vacation. If you would rather work at home because you don’t want to work for someone else anymore, don’t want to make a long commute, or are just ready to start your own business, then there are plenty of opportunities for you to make money online.
When you work at home, it is important to remember that you are still working. Otherwise you will find yourself wasting a lot of time being distracted by being at home, and never get anything done. Here are some ways to effectively manage your time and make any opportunity to work at home a good one:
- Set aside time in your schedule. You don’t have to keep banker’s hours, you can work at any time of the day or night, just make it part of your schedule. Whether you choose to work while your children are napping, keep crazy night-owl hours, or work a typical 9-5 schedule, just make sure you make it a priority.
- Keep home and business separate. Having a separate space for your business, whether an office or a corner of your bedroom, can help “define” your work space. Don’t clog up that work space with toys, laundry, or personal paperwork, or you will find yourself distracted easily.
- Check email at a few key times each day, not every two seconds. Check your personal email in the morning, at lunch, once in the afternoon, and once in the evening. If you don’t believe you can waste tons of time checking personal email and forwarding jokes, keep track of this for one day. You will be amazed!
This is only the tip of the iceberg for good time management habits. If you want to work at home and be successful, you need to be aware that you still have to work and it is still a real job! How do you make the most of your time?
